Disabled Sail Manitoba--Changes Lives!
By Sadie Pelland

This being my second year as the instructor for Disabled Sail Manitoba, and working with Andrea Tully again, there is something new to be learned every year, even if we've been through this before. Getting to meet new and interesting people is, I'm pretty sure, what brings us back to this program.

This year we did a bit of traveling in Manitoba, we went to Falcon Yacht Club for the Falcon Open at the end of May. It was a little cold and very wet, yet we still had tons of fun. Trying to remember how things were done before was a little difficult but we pulled through, right Steven?

Our next trip we went to Pelican Lake for our very own High Performance Camp, where we all learned a lot, thanks to Simone and Sascha. The camp was two days long and right after all the learning the sailors raced in the Big Bird Classic. That was a weekend to remember for all, I'm pretty sure everyone had fun. The people at Pelican Yacht Club were really helpful and very supportive. Thanks guys, for putting up with us for those long days. In between the traveling and the work, we took out a lot of different groups, some who came out last year and some who are very new to the sport; they all seemed to enjoy the relaxation of being out on the water.

I am very happy to have been working with such an awesome group of people this year. We could not have do it all without the help of the other instructors and our wonderful volunteers, everyone was great this year in helping getting things done, even if the winds were a little scary at times, or wasn't there at all.

I think everyone should try out the program at least once, just volunteer for one of the sail groups they take out and your views on sailing will change for ever. Sailing is very important to all, and everyone has got to be given the chance to do it once in their life.
